Up and running
We started processing on Saturday with tomatoes from our field in the southern part of the growing region, with decent yields and very acceptable colour and quality for the start of the season. It is too early to forecast what the balance will bring as the rest of our tomatoes will come from the north, and so far we are only harvesting a few loads a day, but again the first signs are of a good quality. For a light-hearted look at our first days harvesting check out http://youtu.be/YRows4BuVqc
The weather has been very settled now for over a month, and we had a fright 2 nights ago when flash flooding hit the town near our southern field, but fortunately the only damage was to the town. More rain for that area is, surprisingly, forecast for the weekend, so we keep our fingers crossed. We look forward to relaxing after the last tomato has been processed, hopefully in October.
There is no reason to change what has been the official Turkish forecast of 2.0-2.1 m mt at the moment. Processing will stop for a maximum of 1 day during the post-Ramazan holiday on the 19th August.
I remind you that you can follow the development of some of our varieties on our web site ( http://www.tomatopaste.com/WebCamCatalog.aspx ) where you can see the most recent photographs as well as a slide show of development so far.
